With the dangerous avalanche conditions in many popular back country areas, we dialed it back this weekend and chose some mellow terrain just outside the Bogus Basin ski area boundary. Mores Mountain has some great skiing with some low risk options. This is only about a 30-45 minute skin from the OB gate.
We had boot top powder and made two laps. This was a good opportunity for Taylor to try out his new AT setup. It performed great and we had a good time.
On the first lap, we had some nice powder and a few tracks to deal with. After hitting the old forest service road, about 1/2 way down the mountain, we debated whether to continue down one of our favorite lines all the way in to the bottom, but decided we need one more good storm to build the base up just a bit more. So, we put the skins back on and set a fairly direct skin track back up to the top. The second lap was just a 100 yards, or so to the north of our first run. We were rewarded with untracked powder and some nice skiing.
After we returned to the resort, we hit the Last Chance run on Shaffer, (The Face). This was the first time all season that I felt that there was enough snow to even try this. It wasn’t as much fun as skiing Mores, but it felt good to finally get to ski one of the runs on The Face.
Here is a short video that highlights our day!
